The Norwegian Language - Norsk

Birralee International School provides Norwegian lessons for all its students on the Junior and Senior levels by a qualified Norwegian teacher. The goal of our Norwegian lessons is to give all children a feeling of confidence in reading, writing, and speaking Norwegian, whether they are native Norwegians or foreign children staying in Norway for a period of time.

Norwegian is taught three times a week. We follow the Norwegian National Curriculum so that the students' transition to middle school (ungdomsskole) is as smooth as possible. Extra Norwegian classes are provided for students without much Norwegian-language background to help improve their fluency and comprehension swiftly.

In addition to the grammatical study of Norwegian, our children are given a chance to explore the Norwegian culture. The children read Norwegian literature on a regular basis, with Norwegian folktales, songs and games helping to round out the curriculum. Attending various Norwegian functions within the city of Trondheim as well as participating in such Norwegian celebrations as the May 17th parade is done through-out the year.
