Free bus card?
According to Norwegian Law (opplaeringslova § 7 – 1 og § 7 – 3), students in Year 2 and up (barne- og ungdomskole) are entitled to transportation to and from school if they live more than 4 km away from school (2 km in Year 2). The standard means for this transportation is a free school bus card.

Parents can apply for other means of transportation (bus cards for parents, taxi) if they are of the opinion that this student bus card is not sufficient in their specific situation. This formal request in the form of a letter can be sent to the school. We will then forward it to Sør Trøndelag Fylkeskommune who will make the decision.

Parents of students (Y2-Y11) who live closer to school than the required 4 or 2 km can still apply for transportation if they are of the opinion that the road to school is too dangerous or difficult for their child to walk. This formal request in the form of a letter can be sent to the school. We will then forward it to Trondheim Kommune who will decide if the circumstances justify free transportation for the student.

Safety:
Please remember to talk to your children about safety on the bus and around the bus stops. Several children have been spotted playing on the road. Please remind your children that this is extremely dangerous. If they hear it from you, it will reinforce what we have already told them in school. It might also be a good idea to wait at the bus stop with your child in the morning.

A few tips:
Remind them not to run up to the bus stop. Help them make a good habit of being out 5 minutes early. Please teach your children that when waiting at the bus stop, they should stand well back from the curb.

Remind them to always use a pedestrian crossing if there is one.

Tell your child there is an area all around close to the bus where the driver can not see. This is a danger zone. If your child drops something getting on or off the bus they should never try to pick it up right away. They need to tell the driver and the driver will instruct them. Remind them that the driver may not see them if they try to pick something up in front of or beside the bus.

Remind your child to always ask for permission before staying outside to play or going to a friend’s house.

Make sure your children know your mobile phone number by heart. It is also a good idea to write it in their backpacks, together with the school’s number. This way the police or other people can help them if they get lost.

Parking
There is parking (bolig soneparkering) in parts of Bispegate and Sverresgate. The Trondheim parking authorities allow parents to park there for a very short period between 07:30-08:30 and 14:00-16:30– just long enough to escort your child to the classroom. If you intend to stay and talk to the teacher, or to other parents, then you must pay the required parking fee.

Parking rules outside the school gates:
Please note that parking is not allowed in the drop off/pick up zone right outside the school gates. Many students walk to school, some of them alone. There is not much space outside the school gates, as cars park both on the road and also on the pavement. This creates a potentially dangerous situation for all our students.

This is the reason why parking is not allowed in the drop off/ pick up zone.

It is permitted to drop off/ pick up children in the zone, but parents must not get out and leave their car and walk their children into school. The car is also liable to be fined by the parking wardens if one parent leaves the car to walk their child into school and the other parent waits in the car.
