Admission Procedure
We accept applications all year round, but we recommend that parents apply in good time before school start. In case of over subscription the school’s admission criteria are used.
Applications for the Kindergarten / Year 1 (4 and 5 year olds)
Besides the Birralee Application parents will also have to apply with Trondheim Kommune because of the coordinated admission here in Trondheim.

We send out offers for the new school year (that starts in August) in February (after the ”overflyttingsopptakk”) and in March (after the “hovedopptakk”). However, we do accept new children in to the kindergarten the whole year round, provided that there are still places available in the child’s age group.
Admission Criteria Main Admission - Kindergarten
Common for all Trondheim day-care centres:
1. Children with reduced functional ability, cf. the Act relating to day-care institutions, section 13. Documentation from Children and Family Services and/or hospital.
2. Children for whom a decision has been made pursuant to the Child Welfare Services Act, sections 4-12 and 4-4, second and fourth paragraphs.
Specific for the kindergarten at Birralee International School Trondheim AS:
The Principal and the Vice Principal make the final decisions about admittance.
In the case of over subscription, the criteria of admittance are the following in order of priority:
3. children of Norwegian or foreign origin with English as a first language
4. children of Norwegian or foreign origin with English as a second language
5. children who intend to live abroad or go to another international school
6. siblings of children who are attending the school
7. children with handicaps who after a professional assessment could benefit from a place at Birralee
8. other children
Admission Criteria Supplemental Admission - Kindergarten
Children with and without a place in a day-care centre who apply outside the deadline for the main admission or the transfer admission to vacancies during the course of the year.
Common for all Trondheim day-care centres:
1. Children with reduced functional ability, cf. the Act relating to day-care institutions, section 13. Documentation from Children and Family Services and/or hospital.
2. Children for whom a decision has been made pursuant to the Child Welfare Services Act, sections 4-12 and 4-4, second and fourth paragraphs.
3. Children who lose their place in a day-care centre due to closure or leave of absence/closing shall be prioritised.

We send out offers for the new school year (that starts in August) in April. We therefore strongly recommend that parents apply for a place in the school before April 1st. However, we do accept new children in to the school the whole year round, provided that there are still places available in the child’s age group.
