Birralee's Computer Education

At Birralee, we recognize that we have a responsibility to be sure that our students are introduced to the concept of Computer Science on both a practical and theoretical level. The children have weekly computer classes in a computer lab environment and daily contact with the computers in their classroom.

The aim of our computer education is to teach our students to be competent, knowledgeable computer users. The children have access to a wide variety of education software and are instructed in the use of, among other things, word processing systems, databases, spreadsheets, multimedia programs, graphics manipulation and the Internet. We take the time to ensure that our students are aware of both the positives and negatives of the Internet and are able to critically analyse information found on the Internet for bias.
We are fortunate, at Birralee, to be part of a number of computer science projects in connection with various universities and businesses. Through some of these projects, our students make contact with children in many different parts of the world and are exposed to a variety of different communications including e-mail, chats, and video conferencing.
