Design & Technoloy

The essence of design and technology is the application of skills and knowledge to solve problems, which arise from the needs of people. It is about making things that people want and that works well. Design
and technology should give the children a chance to develop designing and making skills so that they can combine these skills with knowledge and understanding in order to design and make quality products.

Throughout their education, the children will become increasingly aware of the technological contribution made to both out culture and quality of life. Through design and technology activities, we would like the children to develop attitudes of curiosity, creativity, originality, open-mindedness, perseverance, responsibility and co-operation. Design and technology draws upon knowledge and skills from other curriculum areas, particularly science, mathematics and art. Science and Design and technology are
viewed as a unit in many ways. They strengthen each other and open up possibilities for linking Design
and technology to understanding and experimenting with scientific principles. Hands on activities where students can apply and demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding will motivate and enhance the teaching and learning in both Science and Design and technology. The students are encouraged to
think and intervene creatively to improve quality of life and to become creative problem solvers working individually or as members of a team.

Design and Technology prepares the students to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies. The students are encouraged to become creative problem solvers, to look for needs and opportunities
and to respond to them. They combine practical skills with understanding and they reflect on and
evaluate their work and that of others.
