We offer a fully international curriculum which meets global standards and prepares students for 21st century challenges and opportunities.
Our curriculum was approved by the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, the executive agency for the Ministry of Education and Research, in 2018.
International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC)
The IMYC is an International Middle Years Curriculum for children aged 11 - 14 years old. It is used in 50 countries worldwide and is the natural follow up of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
The IMYC responds to the specific development needs of 11-14 year olds, providing structures and systems that support the needs of the adolescent brain
This relevant and engaging curriculum centres around a challenging Big Idea for life and a blend of individual and shared learning experiences
It draws on current media platforms, involving active skills-based learning, and promoting self-reflection and the opportunity for students to make sense of their learning
The IMYC allows for single subject teaching and learning whilst facilitating collaboration around a Big Idea, linking all subject learning to a conceptual theme
Offering a student-led learning structure, the IMYC helps 11-14 year olds develop a sense of their place in the world and that of others
The IMYC prepares students for the next stage of their learning and for future work opportunities
Assessment is done through the IMYC Assessment for Learning (AfL) Programme, which tracks students’ skills learning through beginning, developing and mastering for every age group.
Kunnskapsløftet: Norwegian and Adapted Norwegian for beginners
Throughout their schooling at Birralee, our students follow the regular curriculum in Norwegian as taught in local Norwegian schools. Students with no or limited Norwegian skills follow an adapted programme in Norwegian until they are ready to follow the regular programme.
