Health and wellbeing in IMYC units (Year 6 - Year 8)

In an ever-changing world, it’s incredibly important for teenagers to understand their feelings and for them to know how to look after their physical and mental health. In the IMYC2020 curriculum (Year 6 - Year 8), a new subject has been introduced to cover just that! ‘Health and wellbeing’ has now been incorporated into a number of our units, with students engaged in tasks and related discussion that support their learning. For example, as part of the IMYC Unit ‘Balance’ learners will explore and start to understand how their bodies are affected by elements such as stress, nutrition and lack of sleep. After taking part in challenges and activities based around real life scenarios, learners start considering strategies that could help and how a sense of stability could be re-established. The aim is for them to be able to understand how and when to seek help and to have an understanding of simple approaches to counter feelings of being overwhelmed or negativity by the end of the unit. This is a brilliant way to educate middle years students on how to look after their own wellbeing and guide them towards strategies that will help them during their educational journey and in the future.
