Empowering Change: Year 9's Global Perspectives Team Projects

Year 9 have been working on their team projects for the Global Perspectives course over the last few weeks.

They have spent time researching issues ranging from how art can be used to share a message, to responsible AI usage in schools, to how textile waste affects the environment. The students then planned ways to make an impact on the issue they researched.

The team project aims to support students to identify local issues and take action on them and follow involves conducting research, putting a plan into action and reflecting on the process, skills that are important for the IGCSE course, but also for supporting our students to become engaged citizens in the community.

Three students organised a clothes swap to reduce textile waste and reduce the environmental impact of our wardrobes. 100 items of clothing were brought in to be swapped and many students went home with something new.

Two students met with the Red Cross Trondheim and Save the Children Trondheim and interviewed staff about child poverty and inequality in Trondheim. The students also interviewed the public in the city centre and hosted a workshop with year 6 exploring the issue of poverty and inequality in Norway.

One of the teams, inspired by the Birralee screen free week earlier this year, planned a range of screen free activities for year 1 students.
