Getting Ready for Ski Day

We are looking forward to the upcoming ski days! Being out in nature in Norway is a wonderful experience, whether you are an experienced skier or a beginner.

Ski day is about learning, pushing your comfort zone, and trying new things, as well as enjoying time together and sharing a joint experience with classmates. Remember: we’re skiing, not hiking - that would defeat the whole point of ski day! Make sure to dress for gliding in the snow, not just walking in the woods.

We have a good selection of inherited cross country skis and skating equipment available in the school basement. This works well for class activities, for students who have recently arrived in Norway and who are only here for a short time, or for those who may have forgotten their skis for PE. However, the selection is not large enough to cover the needs when big parts of the school have ski day together.

Invest in your own equipment

We strongly encourage families to consider investing in winter sports equipment such as cross-country skis or skates. Having your own equipment makes it easier to use it regularly as a family and allows your child to take part in an important part of Norwegian culture and experience Norwegian nature firsthand.

Please note that this is a great time of year to buy equipment. Many sports shops offer good discounts on winter gear at the end of the season. You can also find very good deals on Finn.no, where there is a lot of used equipment of good quality available, such as skis and skates, at very affordable prices. It is nice for children to have their own equipment, as it makes it easier to use it more often. Remember that you do not need the newest equipment — there is plenty of high-quality used gear available.

Borrow equipment for free

Another option is to borrow equipment for free from BUA. In Trondheim, you can borrow ski equipment from several locations, including BUA Leangen, BUA Heimdal, and BUA Saupstad. They offer skis, skates, helmets, and other winter equipment free of charge.

Outgrown your equipment?

If you have cross-country skis, ski boots, skates, helmets, or other winter sports equipment that your child has outgrown, we would be very grateful to receive them as a donation to help build up the school’s equipment stock.
