Happy Retirement, Mrs Colton!

Today marks the official last day for Mrs Colton after nearly 20 years of dedicated service to our school community.

Over the years, Mrs Colton has made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues through her kindness, commitment and support. As a special farewell, our students submitted questions for Mrs Colton, giving everyone the chance to learn more about her memories, experiences and plans for retirement. We hope you enjoy reading her answers.

We would like to thank Mrs Colton for everything she has done over the past two decades. Her contribution to our school will be remembered and greatly missed.

Everyone at the school wishes Mrs Colton a very happy and well-deserved retirement. We hope this new chapter brings plenty of time to relax, travel, enjoy hobbies and make wonderful new memories.

What do you remember about your very first day at Birralee?

I was working in year1 which was on the second floor then. I getting lost at first and going to the 3rd floor. Also wondering how I was going to remember all these names!

How has the school changed over the last 20 years?

The school’s much bigger now and the building inside is very different. When I first came we shared the building with Kalvskinnet school so there was not a lot of room.

What is one of your favourite memories from working at Birralee?

Interacting with great students every day. Reading stories.

What is the funniest thing that has happened during your time here?

There are so many funny moments but recently I have spent a lot of time looking for my glasses with them on my head.

What has been the most rewarding part of your job?

Sharing the days with great colleagues. Thinking perhaps I’ve made a positive difference to someone’s day. Maybe I’ve cheered them up or just made them feel a little better.

What are you most proud of from your time here?

The plays. I think the student always put everything into them and it shows.

What school event did you always look forward to each year?  

Most events. Beach day and forest day were always enjoyable.

What are you looking forward to most in retirement?

Not having to get up so early! Especially in the winter.

Do you have any exciting plans or hobbies you want to spend more time on?

Ceramics and learning to play the bagpipes.

What will you miss most about the school?

 Seeing all the students every day.
