School Start

We look forward to welcoming old and new students to Birralee on Monday, August 16. Years 2 - Year 10 will start at 08:30 and will have a normal school day. They will meet up in the park across the school.

Year 1 will start at 08:45. They will meet on the playground with their parents. Their first day of school will end at 12:30.

There will be an opportunity for all parents (Year 1 - Year 10) to drink a cup of coffee near the school gate after delivering their children. This event is organised by the Parents' Events Committee. As a green school, we encourage parents to bring their own mug to this event.

Covid-19 Infection Control Measures

For the first time during this pandemic, we will be operating on level Green. This entails a more normal school day for students and staff. However, certain infection control measures will still be in place:

  • Students should not attend school or ASP if they have mild respiratory symptoms.

  • No parents or other visitors allowed on school premises. Parents collect and drop their children off at the school gate. ASP Parents are allowed to enter the Playground if they can maintain social distancing.

  • Increased focus on hygiene and cleaning during School and ASP

Home - School Communication

The school will send out regular information via email and SMS. Other information will be sent out by the teachers through email and Seesaw, the school's learning and communication platform. Parents will receive an invitation to join Seesaw by email. School information and activity calendars can also be found on the school’s website www.birralee.no.

Parents meetings and Parent Conferences

We will be holding two annual Curriculum Meetings for parents. The first one will be in September. This will allow you to (digitally) meet all the teachers and to hear about the curriculum and our plans for the year. Parents are offered two parent-teacher conferences during the year, one in the autumn and one in the spring.

A reminder about lunch and equipment

Your child will need a packed lunch and a drink. Please do not include sweets or fizzy drinks. Please note that students will not be allowed to leave the premises during school hours.

On the first day your child will need indoor shoes and outdoor clothing suitable for the weather.

Healthy School

We would like to remind parents that we aim to be a candy free school. We therefore kindly ask parents to not send any sweets or cakes to school, except for special school celebrations such as Halloween and Christmas.

Children will be recognised in school on their birthday by their teacher and classmates. However, we kindly ask you to not send in any birthday treats.

School Milk

The school provides a milk service for our students. Parents can sign up online for the school year: https://www.skolelyst.no/

After School Program (ASP)

The Birralee After School Program (ASP) provides care, supervision and activities outside the regular school hours for children from Year 1 to Year 4 in a caring environment. ASP is located in the classrooms on the first floor. In addition, the playground, gym, music room and other rooms are used. During the Covid-19 pandemic, ASP will mostly take place outside.

ASP is open from Monday to Friday from 07.30 to 16.30. ASP is open every school day and during most school holidays.

Parents also have the possibility to buy an ASP Clip Card (10x) for 1.300 NOK. The ASP Clip Card allows children to attend ASP for 10 afternoons on regular school days (14:30-16:30)

After School Clubs

Mobile phones and electronic equipment

Mobile phones cannot be used during the school days and must be switched off. Parents can contact their child through the school office if need be.

Please note that the school is not responsible for students’ personal equipment.

Transportation

New students who are living further away than 4 kilometers can apply for a school bus card. For children in Year 2 the required distance is 2 km. Please note that bus cards cannot be used during school holidays or after you’ve moved house. More information and our application form can be found here.
