At Birralee, we see Halloween as more than a festive occasion that provides access to what feels like unlimited candy. It is a wonderful opportunity for creative learning. In fact, we have been celebrating Halloween with our students every year since the start of our school in 1973, making it a long-standing tradition in our school.
Today, our students have engaged in Halloween-inspired activities that encourage curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking across a range of subjects and age-groups:
Language and Literacy: Crafting imaginative stories and poems to strengthen communication and storytelling skills.
Math and Science: Exploring patterns and measurements while experimenting with pumpkins and seasonal themes.
Culture: Discovering the origins of Halloween and comparing how different cultures around the world celebrate autumn traditions.
Food Technology: Designing and preparing themed recipes, learning about nutrition, food safety, and creative presentation.
Music: Composing and performing spooky songs, exploring rhythm, sound effects, and musical storytelling.
Art: Creating Halloween-themed artwork such as masks, pumpkins, spooky drawings, and decorations, allowing students to explore creativity and different artistic techniques.
Community and Wellbeing: Building school spirit through teamwork and a shared celebration across the school.
