Year 3 have concluded their Science-based IPC unit, Shake It! this week.
Shake It! asks the students to observe, experiment and investigate states of matter. During the unit they have made ice cream in a bag; turned cream into butter using only a jam jar; and experimented with dissolving different solids in milk. They also discussed the reasons that people might choose different milks, for health or cultural reasons.
In the Exit Point on Monday, Year 4 were invited to sample the milkshakes Year 3 had designed and made. There was lots of great discussion about colour, texture and, most importantly, flavour before 'Chock Rock' was crowned the favourite!
Unit Summary
We will be learning about solids, liquids and gases and how things can change state. We will need to be scientists to investigate the chemistry of some cooking and preparation processes. We will use our knowledge to make butter, cheese, and milkshakes. What has cooking got to do with science? Do you have any idea of how to make butter?
