Why did you want to become a teacher?
I have always been a keen learner and I enjoy gaining new knowledge, so I wanted to pass that joy on to others.
Where did you work before you joined Birralee?
I worked at a couple of schools as a cover teacher, but Birralee is my first permanent teaching position.
What is the best part of your job?
Laughing with the students is by far my favorite.
What is an unknown skill that you have that comes in handy at work?
I am quite good at multitasking, which is very handy as a teacher.
Were you a good student at school?Â
I was, especially in middle school.
What was your favourite subject at school?
Norwegian, Humanities and English (I cannot choose!)
What’s your best memory you have from going to school yourself?Â
Oh, that is a difficult question. I think some of the best memories would be from when I and 14 other students went to two of Trondheim kommune’s friendship cities in Europe in Year 9.
What is the worst grade you got on a test?Â
I got a 4 (D) on a Nynorsk-test.
What would you be, if you hadn’t become a teacher? I would probably have been a police officer or worked for child services.
Which book should every student read? Â
As a Norwegian teacher I should probably say Vildanden/The Wild Duck or Et dukkehjem/A Dolls House by Henrik Ibsen. These are great works on important topics! But I also think everyone should read the Harry Potter-series; the perfect amount of fun, seriousness and magic for everyday life.
Henrik Ibsen's classics Vilanden and Et Dukkehjem are available in the school library. They can also be read online here: Et Dukkehjem and Vilanden.
The Harry Potter series are available in the school library!
PersonalÂ
Which historical event would you like to have witnessed?Â
The women's suffrage movement in Norway.
If you were the president of the world, what law would you introduce?Â
A law which ensures equal rights for all.
Have you ever met someone famous?Â
Depends on your definition of famous - does the brother of a Norwegian B-celebrity count?...Â
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Consuming books, series and movies, crafts (especially crocheting), hiking and climbing.
What’s your favourite music album? Â
I usually listen to individual songs instead of albums these days, but one album (from my days in middle school) which I often go back to is Lead Sails Paper Anchor by Atreyu.Â
Have you ever been on TV?Â
When I was 5 or 6 years old I sang a Norwegian kids song on TV. Luckily, this was before the time of digital archives… Link to NRK clip featuring Ms Askim
I’m going to the bakery. What will I order for you?Â
One of everything please! And two of everything with chocolate.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?Â
My favorite so far is Iceland.
What makes you mad?Â
Injustice
Which Friends character are you?Â
