We have added a few dates and events to next year's school calendar to help families with their planning. Please note the overview is far from complete as many dates will be added and communicated throughout the school year.
Some dates might change depending on weather conditions and availability of external venues. We will always try our best to give parents sufficient notice of this.
Friendly reminder: schooling is compulsory from age 6 to 16
In Norway, children have an individual right to attend school . The school is not allowed to grant permission for children to be absent from school unless very exceptional circumstances apply. Parents are asked to be aware of this, especially when making holiday and travel bookings.
Parents should not make travel arrangements outside of school holidays before an application for leave of absence has been approved.
Class Teachers can grant a leave for up to one day. For absences longer than a day, an application must be sent to the Principal prior to the leave.
If you wish to remove your child from school during term time you must:-
• apply to the Principal in writing as far in advance as possible;
• ensure that your child completes work set by his/her teachers during the absence;
• understand that fees must be paid while the child is absent;
• note that the Principal reserves the right to refuse the application.
Please note that in Norway a Principal is only permitted to grant a leave for up to two weeks. For longer leaves, the child will have to be taken off the roll. Parents can reapply for a place for their child. Longer or frequent unauthorized leaves will be reported to the local authorities.
