As part of the Brainwave unit, Year 5 have been learning about metacognition.
In pairs, they selected one area of metacognition, such as verbal reasoning or spatial perception, and designed and created their own game to test these. The results were fantastic and the students showed a great deal of creativity.
On Friday, Year 4 visited the Year 5 classroom and had a wonderful time playing their games.
In the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), metacognition is taught through units like "Brainwave Metacognition" to help students understand and improve their own learning processes by learning how their brains work and then planning, monitoring, and evaluating their learning strategies. Students in the IPC learn to identify strengths and weaknesses, set goals, reflect on challenges, and apply strategies to achieve success, fostering critical thinking and self-awareness.
