What a week it has been! As we approach the festive season, the energy in our school has been electric. The halls are filled with excitement and an infectious holiday spirit.

Monday

ASP enjoyed a variety of Christmas workshops and free play troughout the week. We have attached some snapshots from Monday afternoon.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, Year 3 delivered a wonderful Christmas Performance of the legendary tale of the Pied Piper. Singing, dancing, acting, they can do it all!

Wednesday

On Wednesday, we welcomed back some of our Birralee Alumni who told our current Year 10 all about what it is like in High School during their Careers lesson.

Thursday

On Thursday, Year 4 and 5 joined forces to perform the musical Madagascar. A stellar performance!

Friday

On Friday, we rounded off the week with the traditional Santa Lucia parade and concert.

Could this be the biggest School Choir in Trondheim?

About Santa Lucia:

Santa Lucia is celebrated in almost all Scandinavian schools. One of the central themes of the Santa Lucia celebration is the triumph of light over darkness, which resonates deeply in Scandinavia during the dark winter months. As the days are short and the nights are long in December, the celebration of Lucia serves as a way to bring light and hope to the communities.

In schools, the festivities typically involve a procession led by a girl chosen to represent Lucia. They sing traditional songs, such as the popular "Santa Lucia," as they walk through the school.

The celebration promotes a sense of community and togetherness, reinforcing the values of generosity, goodwill, and the importance of helping others. It is a time for students to learn about their Scandinavian cultural heritage while engaging in a festive activity that brings joy and lights up the school environment, fostering a spirit of unity and celebration as the holiday season approaches.

After the concert, Years 1 to 4 had to rush off to watch the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Opera perform Raymond Briggs' "The Snowman" at Olavshallen.

For some of our students it was the first time they attended a live orchestra. The sheer magic of seeing musicians play together, combined with the enchanting visuals of “The Snowman” brought the story to life in a way that words alone could not. As the children watched the animated film accompanied by the orchestra, they witnessed firsthand how music can evoke emotions, tell stories and create atmospheres that resonate deeply.

Experiences like these help foster an appreciation for the arts in young minds and might even inspire our students to explore their own musical talents.

In the afternoon, Year 1 welcomed the school starters from Birralee Kindergarten to their classroom.

In the midst of all the holiday cheer, we kept up with our academics with a Maths competition between the different houses in the school.

For a long time, Blue and Yellow were neck and neck at the front, while House Red and Green were fighting it out for 3rd place. We aim to post an update with the final results soon, but we do know at this point that the Green House ended last. We have asked Mr Greenhalgh, Team Captain of the Green House, for a statement on this result:

Although we were unable to hit the top this time, the competition has helped develop the math literacy of Green House. I am proud of the effort our house members put in. I will give you my unofficial statement later.

Mr Greenhalgh

Looking ahead

Will things slow down next week? We doubt it! We are looking forward to the Robin Hood Christmas Performance by Years 6 and 7. As well as to School Spirit Week!
